I have to say that I prefer DD_belatedPNG over a superstar. It is easier to implement and does not seem like a dead end. IE6 plus hover works out of the box.

Remember that AlphaImageLoader conversion can deadlock IE6 .

Use PNG8s instead of regular PNG32. You are limited to 256 colors and 1 bit alpha transparency, but this randomly blocks the browser.

You can not ... IE6 does not support transparent PNG. Your best bet is to use transparent GIF files and format them according to what they are viewing.
