Live video streaming, how to play on iPhone?

I am wondering what is available for playing live video on my iPhone, as a developer. Several applications exist and play live, for example:

http://qik.com/
http://www.ustream.tv
http://orb.com/en/orblive

Do you have an idea how they achieve this?

Thank you very much.

IPhone 3.0 software includes new APIs for video streaming. Unfortunately, this is under the NDA at the moment, so no one can really talk about it in these forums.

I worked on streaming live video. Unfortunately, I had no decision about this. Until the day the apple turned on RTSP streaming support in its SDKs. So while there is no solution for streaming real-time video, perhaps we may have some in the future.

You can transfer ffmpeg and live555 to iOS to achieve direct video streaming to iOS.

Here is an open source project: https://github.com/dropcam/dropcam_for_iphone

In fact, I am trying to port ffmpeg 0.6 and live555 to iOS and made a simple video streaming application. It is quite feasible.

We need to encode our streaming in HLS format, such as .m3u8, mp4 and any other HLS support formation in iOS. Apple did not approve of the live broadcast without the HLS formate. You can use the wowza media server to encode your HLS formate server url for support on iOS, and then you can play through MPMoviePlayerController on iOS.
