Our client does not like pop-ups, what should we do?

Besides showing and hiding the <div> , are there any better solutions or replacements in the javascript popups? Thanks!

If pop-up means opening a new window, you can avoid this in many cases. Check out the modal dialog boxes , as well as those used by the jQueryUI framework.

Primarily; No one likes pop-ups.

The best solution is to change the interface so that a popup is no longer required. If this cannot be done, design problems arise.

It all depends on the context: why, what, where, where, how much (content)

Do you want to:

  • help the user with two lines of useful text before he presents the form ("No underscore in the field **, only letters and numbers" - SO is a good example for this - excellent, and a stylized tooltip should work with huge bonuses for ARIA and / or unobtrusive JS).
  • switch to full-screen mode (I don’t want this, and nobody wants it anymore: too many abuses in the past)

You can test Amazon.com left navigation with and without JS: unobtrusive and thoughtful!

No new window, no div? Then you are left with ul, fieldset, an object, animated gif files, etc. OK don't joke anymore. Maybe tabs like at www.barelyfitz.com/projects/tabber/

Pop-ups are evil; avoid them if possible.

To replace this, you can try thickbox , which is pretty cool.
