The best way to automate tasks in windows

The Mac has a built-in applescript program, and I found it worked pretty well for automation.

What are the best equivalent windows?

Perhaps PowerShell - but it is much more powerful than applescript. VBA exists only in certain applications that ship it, such as Excel, and not offline.

VBScript and JScript are standard Windows Script Host languages. See Microsoft Windows Script Technologies .

I discovered python when I went to the computer and was looking for something that would do everything that I usually did with applescript. As someone who has learned most of my programming skills using applescript, I got it very easily. Best of all, you can use it on any platform.

BTW applescript has been around a lot longer than OSX.

Powershell is a program to learn if you want to automate windows work. Microsoft condemns vbscript, which is part of the Windows Script Host, and pushes Powershell as a modern replacement for vbscript. For example, Microsoft is creating more and more APIs for Powershell. On the other hand, vbscript has a lot of similarities with vba, which is a standard program for automating Word, Excel and Outlook.
