.NET hosting for demo projects

Question

I am a Java programmer who wants to learn .NET, especially C # and F #, to improve my job opportunities. For this purpose, I am creating a website with several demo projects. My hope is to learn C # / F # and the .NET platform by creating this site and then a finished product for self-promotion and showing potential employers.

I need a good host.

My priorities are cost, stability and capabilities. I could pay around $ 10 a month, but I really don't want to pay more than $ 5 a month. Stability and performance must be reasonable. I want to access all the widely used .NET tools (SQLServer, LINQ, C #, F #, VB, MVC, any other materials that may be reasonably necessary that I don’t know about yet). What time frame do you have? I would strongly recommend not to buy hosting until your project is ready, because you can spend a month or two on hosting.

However, I highly recommend DiscountASP . They stay on top of the MS stack really hard. I had ASP.NET MVC installed on the day it was released, for example, and they have a lot of experience setting up the environment to suit your needs.

EDIT: To more clearly answer your question, ASP.NET, MVC, Linq, SQL Server 2005 or 2008 (choice), SQL Server Express, etc. are preinstalled. I know someone who also has F # code there, but I can’t say whether he asked him or not. I know that it didn’t cost him too much.

I also just study and I use reliablesite.net for my asp.net projects. They have a coupon section that is easy to miss and will give you 80% of your first invoice - so I signed up for a quarterly cost of about $ 30, paying only $ 6 for the first 3 months. I second ReliableSite.Net

It is cheap and good. They even drop the free MS SQL 2005 database (1 GB - Extra DB costs $ 1) that other places charge $ 10 per month and give you less than 500 MB of space.

My advice: if you can afford to host a virtual machine on your own computer or use a spare machine from a friend or relative, take it as a "development server". Study and deploy there, and when you are satisfied with your work, go online. Then, if you can afford a 24/7 Internet connection with a public IP address, you can become your host! Services such as no-ip allow you to have a free domain redirected to your own machine.

The honest answer is that you cannot do it for 10 dollars or less. The .NET platform (with the exception of Mono) runs under licensed software and therefore the platform obviously costs more money for hosting companies than deploying Linux-based systems.

I am the second DiscountAsp support service with Josh Jordan. I used them for several projects and currently works with several sites. They are not as fantastic as some other hosting providers, but they are SOLID. (For fantasy, I mean some of the quick starting bells and whistles, such as website templates.) Even better, they feel like the master of the developer. For example, I do most of the work of Sql Server, and I can connect from my own development environment from anywhere. Many hosts require that you use a custom IDE web environment that does not work much like the MS client.

Get it: Have you ever found out any other hosting service that has the "Account Cancellation" link on your site? Yes. These guys are so sure that they don’t make you go through hoops if you decide you want to refuse! It requires a bit of brass b @lls! Even better, they can support it.

Do you have an extra box? Why not just put it directly on your internet connection and use dyndns so you can use cnames to point your domain to your server?

(I'm not sure how common it is to use F # in ASP.Net ... or if possible.)

What about the Amazon EC2 virtual machine? Just run it when you need it, and pay only for the time it works.

Mono has a Visual Studio plugin that will automatically start the EC2 computer for you and start executing / debugging your application.

I thought so too. I decided to open a blog to publish my code, resume, and other related things as a career enhancement tool. I tried to do it dev. also.

As for the .NET host, I have a friend who uses GoDaddy for his site.

Besides creating Wordpress or other blogging software, I would probably do what nairdaen suggested.

I personally have not used F #, so I can not talk about it.

I like MochaHost . Some people say that they have problems with them, but I did not come across them. Unlimited space and bandwidth (which means that as long as you do not affect other users), unlimited domains, and they are IIS7 on a 2008 server with 3.5 Framework. This is for the Mocha level.
