Distribute iPhone app for commercial software product

if you have a product and want to have an iPhone app for this commercial product (this app just contacts the web service and presents some data)

how can you distribute this iPhone application to customers of this product? only about the Apple Store? Is Apple allowed to store an application for a commercial product there? Can this app be free?

That's right. The App Store already has many of these products. You just need to provide Apple with demo accounts that they can use during the approval process to test your application. None of the other distribution models (Ad Hoc, Enterprise) will work as you need, because you need a device identifier or physical access to the device.

If you intend to distribute your application for free (because it is associated with a commercial product), you can bypass the App Store by creating a web application.

Nextstop is a good example of how you can create web applications that feel native.
