Internet access using Windows credentials

We have an intranet site on our corporate network (SharePoint 3). If I look at it through Internet Explorer, I’m already logged in. If I look at it using Firefox, I have to enter the username and password for Windows.

My questions are as follows:

Why is there such a discrepancy between browsers? Does Microsoft have some kind of proprietary plugin in IE that can enable this automatic login? Can I get automatic login to Firefox?

Thank you very much.

  • Open Firefox and enter "about: config" in the address bar.

  • In the "Filter" field, enter the following "network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris"

  • Double-click the name of the preference we just searched

  • Enter the URLs of sites to which you want to pass NThM authentication information (separated by commas)

This is equivalent to adding a site to an intranet zone in IE.

This is because Firefox does not support NTLM very well, also known as Windows Authentication. If you are looking for firefox ntlm , you will find many resources that will provide you with options on how this might work.

I change jobs every six months or so and never could get it to work reliably. Sometimes it is impeccable, sometimes I always get a hint, no matter what. However, they are gradually improving support with new versions of Firefox, so you can try to completely remove and reinstall Firefox.

Basically, set the network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris parameter in about: config to the comma-separated list of hosts you want to work with NTLM with.

I am not sure if there is a better way to trust all machines on the LAN, as in IE.
