TFS2005 Subversion Migration Strategies

We are located on TFS2005, and we are definitely not using all the features. All we use now is the source code repository. For CI, we use CruiseControl because TFS2005 will not create .NET3.5 applications. Migrating to TFS2010 is one of our considerations, but we are also thinking about just switching to Subversion.

Has anyone made the transition from TFS to Subversion? Any exchange tips? I would really like to move the file history, but I tried using the tfs2svn tool without success. Has anyone tried anything else?

If you understand the Team Foundation API , you can grab vss2svn from codeplex and replace VSS calls with TFS. It basically captures version 1 on 1 and adds them to SVN, thereby preserving the full history. Because the application is .NET, replacement calls should be very simple.

It’s just a pity that you cannot get a refund for TFS :)
