Can I use ASP.NET MVC 2 Preview 1 in a production application?

I'm not sure if you can use ASP.NET MVC 2 Preview 1 already in the production system? I would like it because it introduces some much-needed features that are dodgy in MVC 1.

Unfortunately, I did not learn anything about this topic or roadmap in the ScottGu release of 7/31. Is MVC2P1 pretty much what MVC will be (I don't know what the MVC team considers a preview)? Anyone have any better info on this?

Appreciate your contribution, thanks!

Based on the release of MVC 1, there were a lot of previews before the final version. The initial ASP.NET MVC 1 Preview 1 was very different from the final version. The final MVC 1 Preview 5 was very similar to the final release, very little different (if at all), and I think the main difference was the bug fix.

While MVC 2 is a refinement of MVC 1, it has some important new initiatives (e.g. areas), and there is no guarantee that how the current MVC 2 Preview 1 works, how the final product works. If you need longevity in your production system, I would really not recommend using any preview product in production capacity unless you want to deal with possible significant changes in the final version.

Note ... if you save your production system with a subsequent release of the preview, this should facilitate your final migration to the final version of MVC 2.

There are many improvements while waiting in line for even preview 2. For example, client-side data validation will be introduced in Preview 2 and will come with new compatible APIs . The team is also still improving the template view helpers. So I don't think it will be MVC 2.

All the problems with maintaining stability and the API aside, I think that Microsoft does not release MVC 2 Preview with a license that allows you to use bit in a working environment, that is, a go-live license. This seems to be true, at least for Preview 1.

I compile this from a comment on a comment on a Scott blog post and Phil Haack comment on a blog post .
