Export Google App Engine datastore to MySQL?

We plan to create part of our infrastructure for the Google App Engine. But we are concerned that if it does not scale, we will need to export the data and run it on our own servers in the future.

Is there a way to export from an App Engine data store to MySQL?

As for data export, there is a Bulk Downloader for this purpose. By default, it is exported to CSV files, but you can write your own Exporter class, which is directly exported to a MySQL database or any other format of your choice.

It is also quickly becoming possible to host an alternative App Engine environment through projects such as AppScale , (my own) BDBDatastore and TwistedAE .

In general, I think that your problems with scaling are unreasonable - in App Engine there are already many applications that receive a high level of traffic, but in part it depends on your application and its needs. Of course, I'm biased - I'm on the App Engine team, so take my assessment with salt.;)
