Combining data between databases

Suppose I have two different databases with identical schemas but with different data. I want to combine data between two databases by adding data from one to the other. Foreign key relationships, etc. Must be supported during data transfer.

Are there any tools (or databases with built-in tools) to make this work pretty simple?

Data Comparison in Red Gate

The best tool I have found for this type of thing is hands down.

This functionality is built into the Windows Team System (database version or package). I tried this and the older version of Red Gate SQL, and both of them are great for working. There are also some free tools (see this thread), but I have no experience with any of them.

2 options that I know of:

1. You can use SQL Server Data Tools . See data comparison instructions here .

2. Another option is xSQL Data Compare . For an explanation of how to use it, check out my answer here .

Disclosure: I am associated with xSQL

The Visual Studio Team / Database version has a schema / data comparison tool.
