Eclipse Performance Monitoring: What Does Eclipse Do?

Recently, I have been watching how Eclipse Galileo (3.5) slows down in Java 1.5b12 or Java 1.6b10, every 10-15 minutes for about 30 seconds, it reaches 90-95% of the processor load. However, the presentation of progress shows nothing.

I suspect the plugin is causing problems, but I need some kind of tool or plugin to monitor Eclipse for what it does during these spikes.

Is there such a plugin or tool?

Edit # 1: added information about the Eclipse version and Java version (well, sorry)

If you have the correct eclipse.ini, you can control the eclipse session using JConsole.

I had the same problem with an old eclipse3.4 or 3.4.1 installation. In both cases, switching to eclipse3.5 with the latest JDK solved the problem.
