Getting the correct code completion for Python on Vim?

I got omnicompletion with Pysmell to work before, but I can't seem to do it again.

I tried to take several steps on the Internet, but most, if not all, of them are vague and suggest too much that you know what you are doing to some extent.

Can someone post a complete, step-by-step tutorial on how to properly complete the code for complete Vim beginners (for dummies?)?

You can try Pydiction (see below)

Description Pydiction allows you to Complete Python code in Vim, including: standard, custom and third-party modules and packages. plus keywords, inline and string literals.

There is also Ctrl+n in insert mode, which will be autocomplete based on the words that he saw in any of the open buffers (even on other tabs).

Pyflakes has a vim plugin which makes it pretty amazing. Unlike Pydiction, you do not need to create a dictionary in advance (so if you jump between different virtual files, this is a little less hassle.) I have not used it for a long time, but it seems very smooth.

Try pressing Ctrl-p, typing the middle word. Ctrl-p inserts the last word that begins with the prefix you enter, and Ctrl-n inserts the next match. If you have several options, you can press ctrl-p more than once to replace each candidate in order.
