Vim backlight on the right edge of the screen

Question

Is it possible to define a syntax group where the selection will extend to the right edge of the screen (and not just the last character in the line)? This group can potentially correspond to several lines. I am not trying to highlight the current cursor line, but rather entire blocks of comments.
