Advanced jQuery Plugin

Is there a plugin that can help create walkthroughs for javascript apps / sites?

If not, (I can't find anyone through Google, although I could swear I knew at least one), is this a good idea (for a moderately complex application)? How does it compare to screencasts? What is your best practice if you have to do this? And in general terms, what are some ideas on how to do this.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: As an example, something like this I just found.

It is not clear what you are looking for until I saw that you mentioned screencast. thus, you can find slideView a useful display of screenshots and text as a step-by-step guide.

This is a bit of a plug-in, but I created Overlay101 , which contains an integrated walkthrough that non-developers can manage. I think this is a lot easier than supporting the jquery extension.

You can select elements based on id or css selectors. Once javascript is added to your page, you can pretty much pass it on to those who write help text.

Hopscotch is a really good infrastructure for developers to add product tours to their pages. It is currently managed by LinkedIn, and the GitHub repository is here:

You can try WhatFix , it has a simple UI-based pass builder that also captures screens along with html elements. With WhatFix, you can embed step-by-step guides in the form of slides, articles in customer support pages , and also use javascript to call instructions in the application. WhatFix has a free community version.

Disclosure: I am a co-founder of WhatFix.
