How to change dynamic window resizing using Ubuntu on VirtualBox

Ive installed Ubuntu inside Sun VirtualBox. When I maximize the VirtualBox window, the Ubuntu window remains the same size and does not dynamically grow with the size of the VirtualBox window.

I have seen this before. How do I configure it? (And no, I'm not just looking for how to increase the screen resolution)

thanks

You need to install VirtualBox Guest Add-ons.
Go to Synaptics and check the packages:

virtualbox-ose-guest-utils virtualbox-ose-guest-x11

or go to the console and type:

 sudo apt-get install virtualbox-ose-guest-utils virtualbox-ose-guest-x11

This will allow most VirtualBox drivers on your system.

If you need USB support, you need to install binary add-ons for guests from the device menu of your VirtualBox window. They have more features than OSE, but you need to install them manually. This is described in ubuntu-tutorials

You need to install the Virtualbox add-ons inside the guest OS. This can be done by selecting "Devices → Install Virtual Box Add-ons".

This will install the installation CD image on the cdrom guest if the add-ons are available for Ubuntu. If this is not the case, you can install them by following some of the guides found on Google. For example, this one .

Fixed an issue with Windows Guest Additions drivers being removed from this directory to save hard disk space

There seems to be an error when using "Devices"> "Install Guest Add-ons" when loading os and that the image that is being mounted is incomplete and does not include all the necessary files (in fact, it had about 4 files and readme)

He returned to the VirtualBox manager and selected "Guest Additions" as the mounted CDROM disk, which showed the correct mounted disk and everything worked in accordance with the previously provided training instructions.

I suggest an alternative route.

First download .iso for guest add-ons.

Exit Ubuntu in VirtualBox and go to:

  • Settings> Storage
  • Click "Blank" next to the CD icon
  • To the right, in the "Attributes" section and next to "CD / DVD Drive", click the CD icon
  • Click "Select Virtual CD / DVD"
  • Browse to the .iso file you downloaded for guest add-ons.

Note the difference between a "drive" and a "drive."

  • Drive: internal storage (e.g. hard drive)
  • Disk: external media (in this case, CD or DVD)

NOTE. After installing the guest add-ons in full screen mode, press (Ctrl-right) + F. Do the same so as not to maximize the window.
