How do you put a period after a section number using an article class?

I am using an article class with code:

\documentclass[12pt]{article} \begin{document} \section{Foo} This is an example of foo. \section{Bar} This is an example of bar. \end{document}

This gives:

1 foo

2 bar

What I want is the period after the section number:

  • Foo

  • Bar

I cannot refuse an article class. How to do it?

 \renewcommand{\thesection}{\arabic{section}.}

Use the titlesec package and put in the preamble:

  \ titlelabel {\ thetitle. \ quad}

Not sure, since I don't have latex on my reformatted PC yet, but it should be something like:

 \def\thesection {\arabic{section}.}

You must place it in the preamble of the document. Absolutely not sure of the correctness (now there is no way to try).
