Recovering a deleted file for use in my workspace

Hi We work with several users. Each user has their own development website, which displays files in the workspace. This is great for creating and viewing changes to web pages before submitting them.

Once back we deleted several pages in Perforce. I would like to animate these pages, but not make them visible on our site. I want to view them in my workspace and on my dev site, but I want to push them to our live server.

On the Depot tab of my P4 client, I see deleted files. I donโ€™t see them on the workspace tab of my client.

How can I revive them for use in my workspace, but not make them live in peace?

I am not a P4 administrator, so I could use a little guide.

Thanks for any help

Found my answer. A colleague suggested to me Google "Get an audit ..."

http://kb.perforce.com/UserTasks/ManagingFile..Changelists/RecoveringDeletedFiles

I used everything but the last two steps, and it worked.

In the P4V GUI:

  • Make sure that the deleted files are displayed in the "Detector View" panel (go to the "View" menu, select the "Filter" menu and click "Show Remote Depot Files". In new versions of P4V, this will be in the "Search" menu)
  • Locate the file in the Storage View panel
  • Context-click on the file and select "Get revision"
  • In the "Get revision" dialog box, click on the "Specify revision with:" radio button and leave "Revision" in the drop-down list
  • In the empty field to the right of the "Revision" drop-down element, enter the number of the last good version of the file
  • Click Get Revision
  • In the "Storage View" panel, click the context-click on the file and select "Mark to add"
  • In the "Storage View" panel, click the context-click on the file and select "Send"
  • Fill out the list of changes and click "Submit"

With Perforce, until you execute most of the commands, do nothing but influence the local representation of the repository.

So, you can check the old versions of the file and have them in your client, and until you check them with anyone (including your live site), you will see them.

Both p4win and p4v have the option "show deleted files". In p4win and p4v, you can right-click the file and select "recover deleted file". This does what you do manually and the file will be open for upload.

Am I missing something? They will not live unless you post them on your site.

Thanks for all the answers. I'm not a Peru Guru, so forgive me if I put it wrong.

Our system is configured in such a way that we have a website for Live. Files submitted to perforce are displayed on this Live site, as is usually the case. The general availability of this site. Each developer also has their own development site, which we only see. It reflects our Live site. Our changes to the extracted file in Perforce can be viewed on our development site, but not on the Live site, until we submit the changes (changes). As expected, this allows us to review our changes before making them live.

When we delete files in Perforce, they are deleted from our workspace. I still see them on the Depot tab, but they donโ€™t appear on either my development site or Live site. What I wanted to do was return the deleted files to my Workspace so that I could view them on my development site, but not have them visible (marked) on our Live site.

The last post I made with instructions about this worked for my purpose. Files are returned to my workspace, but are only displayed on my development site.

I was afraid to do some Perforce file recovery that might automatically make them live on our Live site again. This thinking was related to my inexperienced work with Perforce. With all your help, I now know how to do it.

Thanks again,
