Missing: Utility Explorer in Management Studio 2008 R2

I am trying to use Data-Tier applications and looking through the tutorial here .

When I go to the next step, the tutorial tells you to open the Utility Explorer utility in the browse menu. But he is not there! I looked through the entire program for another entry point, but I just can't see it.

I am currently running SQL Server 2008 R2 version 10.50.1352.12 and connected to a server with SQL Server R2 Server Express.

Why can't I find him?

Do you work with the express version of SQL Server Management Studio? If so, it does not support Utility Control Point material. In addition, you connect to SQL Server Express Edition and cannot be a checkpoint. You are in the enterprise. However, you can use the Developer Edition for the game, and it works the same as Enterprise, except that you cannot use it for production.

You may have passed this, but someone might find it useful ...?

I use 10.50.1600.1, and the utility is in the View menu of SSMS

But you do not need to "configure the SQL Server utility." I often use / deploy DAC packages since R2 RTMed also had a utility.

Greetings

Make sure you install SQL Server 2008 R2 - with the option "Management Tools - Full"

Installation steps are listed in the following link: SQL Server Management Studio is missing after installing 2008 R2

Hope this helps!
