How to make this very long url short?

I have made most of my SE sites friendly, but one part of my site is fooling me ...

I have a HUGE form on one of the pages, and when I submit the form's URL (action = php_page) for so long it covers half the word of the document on one line with all the passing variables ...

This is very ugly ...

Is there any way to make this long url short?

Or some other solution that you know about?

Let me know if you need more input ...

thanks

How to use POST instead of GET?

<form action="action.php" method="post">

In action.php you need to use $_POST instead of $_GET .

Remember that you should always redirect to a page indicating that the action was completed successfully after processing the form (in this case, in action.php ) using header('success.php'); . If the user needs to refresh the page, the action will not happen twice (which would be unsuccessful if you wrote something to a database or something like that).

You can use POST instead of GET, although it will not be classified, and not very optimized for SEO, less friendly than a long URL. If people should be able to bookmark or treat them as a link, you have about 4 options:

  • Significantly shorten the shape.
  • If you select and check the boxes, seriously reduce their names and the actual values to be sent (again, not very SEO-friendly: Google, etc., like their keywords in the URL).
  • Think of shorter descriptions of the placed features and redirect these combos with a shorter URL (if possible even to capture these combinations).
  • Forget the form URL: there, people will use it. However, expose your content to crawl in a way that the bot can follow: perhaps typical search queries become tagcloads, selectboxes can become crawled hierarchical structures, etc. It’s about getting people to get content similar to your domain, and then offering them a form as a service to get great content.
