How to program the bootloader ..? Want a USB stick with Windows 7, XP, Vista, and possibly 98 SE to be used for installation

Hello friends of my friends StackOverflow!

What I really would like to do is copy the contents of my Windows 7, Windows XP (Pro and Home SP3), Windows Vista and assume that I have a place for my most updated copy of the 98 SE installation CDs to a flash drive so that I can use it for any OS installations that I need to perform.

Obviously, I need a bootloader that allows me to choose which OS installation we are going to load; so I wonder if this is possible at all.

So - A) is my small project even feasible?

B) Should I program my own custom bootloader to do this, or would it be possible to change the bootloader that Windows drives already use by default (or even hack LiLo or Grub for this)

C) Do you know anyone from a good place to learn how to program bootloaders, or is it completely out of my league? I .... only when programming, but I will not get to the end of the expert.

The reason I want to use it on a flash drive is simply because the read speed from them is usually faster than FAR than from DVD or CD-ROM - ESPECIALLY if the computer is slightly older and the optical drive is out of doors .

As always, thanks for your help!

You can use Easyboot , and it will automatically create a specific bootloader and make an ISO file containing boot files and data files. You can then transfer the ISO to a USB flash drive and make it bootable using third-party software such as Win To Flash.

No need to program the bootloader, you can use the Windows 7 bootloader or syslinux or grub4dos among others. The guys from http://www.boot-land.net have several guides and tools to solve such problems and are ready to help you as well.
