VS2010 - there is no new menu in the file "New project"

An employee has just installed Visual-Studio-2010 Premium from MSDN. The installation acted as if it worked fine, but when he clicks on the "File" menu, he only has a "new file". In my installation, I see a "new" menu with a submenu that contains "Projects", "Files", "Team Projects".

Any ideas on what to check or how to fix its installation. I think he was already repairing.

Try tools + import and export + reset. This will restore the menu in the factory settings. This may be necessary when you just installed a new version of VS, since in this case it imports the menu of the previous version of VS, so everything looks familiar. This is not always desirable.

If this does not turn off, then the next step is to run the devenv.exe file with the / safemode command-line option to make sure that this is not an add-in that is causing problems.

I know this is too long, but I had the same problem in 2013. For some reason, VS was being debugged, and it was for this reason that the new project was not available. Hope this helps someone else.

There was the same problem. I realized this after reading this question. If you configured the default Visual Studio setting for Visual Basic, it doesnโ€™t have a new menu, but a default reset for Visual C # has been added.

This problem occurs when, at the first start, instead of the "General development parameters" button, they clicked "Project Management Settings" and skipped the NEW project and the Toolbar.

To fix, do the following

  1. click tool menu
  2. Click Configure Import and Export
  3. Select Reset All Settings โ†’ Next.
  4. Next โ†’ select "General development options" โ†’ Next
