Proxies are ok if they are free.
Fiddler is the gold standard proxy for debugging http. And it's free (like in beer).

I think the best tool to work with would be Wireshark .
Not only can you check HTTP, but much more.
The whole purpose of usinh HTTP watch was to see HTTP packets in an SSL connection. This is not possible if you use Wireshark.
