Optimization and tips for Visual Studio 2010?

I noticed that Visual Studio 2010 is much slower than my Visual Studio 2008 IDE, I found some useful optimization tips and suggestions for VS2008, however I want to know if people have any tips for VS2010

Two parts of the answer:

Firstly, I would really appreciate it if you could download this diagnostic tool to do a trace. This is not a fix, but it will help us improve the product. If you send me an email (noahric at msft), I can send you instructions and find a place to download these tracks. The same goes for others who read this question / answer; the more runs, the more fun.

In addition, you can try several things:

  • In the Tools-> Options-> Environment-> General menu, disable "Automatically configure visual perception based on client performance" and disable the visual image of a rich client.
  • You can also try disabling hardware graphics acceleration (from the same place). I have found many cases where performance is better with software rendering.
  • If you work with really great solutions, try the Solution Download Manager . This allows you to disable the automatic loading of projects within the solution.
  • Do you have any extensions? If you do, you can try disabling them.
  • Run fewer VS instances at a time. I personally run quite a lot at a time, but I heard a lot of reports in which people ran enough VS instances to retrieve virtual memory.

I hate being the opposite, but I just turned on โ€œAutomatically adjust visual perception based on client performance,โ€ and the VS2010 Ultimate is now almost as fast as the VS2008.

Earlier, I set this setting and checked the "Use hardware graphics acceleration, if available" checkbox.

I was seriously thinking about returning in 2008 due to the horrific 2010 performance.

I have a Precision workstation with:

Quad-core Xeon @ 3.40 GHz 16Gig RAM 3x15K 300 Gig SAS Drives NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700 Running Server 2008 Standard SP2

The device is not in insufficient power, and if I open a very large solution with VS2008 (it is also installed), when opening several copies of VS2010 it opens almost instantly. I'm starting to think that the problem is incompatibility with the FX 1700 in VS2010.

Perhaps this problem is very configured. dependent.
