Is WML and WMLScript dead?

Question

Are WML and WMLScripts more? I remember writing WML applications with classic asp on the server side, and we used the interaction with the phone functions from the client using WMLScript and WTAI and did some interesting things, adding phone numbers to the address book, starting a call from WMLScript and much more. I still miss these things. I really want to know if modern web browsers over the phone have replaced WML with rich HTML support.

I also found that one of the most active WML and WAP Openwave Developers forum of our time is now discontinued, which no less than shocked me. The forum also provided a good SDK for developing a WAP for testing the simulation of a WAP gateway and WAP pages on an openwave browser simulator. All of this now seems not to be available.

It is used by some POS systems, such as POSWEB, which I developed over the years with ASP.NET to create dynamic WML maps or downloadable directories, receipts, etc.

There are also similar platforms, such as VERIWEB, which are designed for the same purpose. I also heard that a similar portable WML / WMLScript is used in devices with a compact network, such as food / grocery distributors, travel machines, etc.

These implementations mainly support the WML / WMLScript standard, however, it usually combines additional functions (depending on the target device), such as smart card processing, symmetric and asymmetric cryptography, creation of flat and indexed files, etc.

WML is still alive and uses many modern browsers that do not support WML, for example, browsers such as Firefox, Chrome, but Opera still supports WML for mobile devices and for web browsers. WML is friendlier to older phones, but xHTML MP is the future on mobile WAP sites.

I would say that it is becoming less and less common in the wild.

You may find that the odd device only works with WML, but efforts to support these few may not be your goal, in this case, getting started with html should be fine.

Users of these old phones usually already agree that their phone is not the best and cannot do as much as other phones.

Check out 0.facebook.com! Some resurgence of WML interest in some companies, mine is included after Facebook Zero. The idea is that most of the technology used in the developing world uses old technologies such as WML, and encoding modern pages in WML will increase access in the developing world.
