MATLAB: print in black and white

Matlab prints shapes in black or white. Black-and-white printing of a figure is NOT the same as color printing with a shade of black / white: each color, including light, is translated as black. (Light colors that look good on a screen or color printer look awful on a black and white printer)

I would like to print a PDF shape file. My problem is that there seems to be no PDF driver for MATLAB that outputs black / white, not color.

See the print command: -dpdf is a PDF driver, but color.

Can I do this?

(edit: http://www.mathworks.com/access/helpdesk/help/techdoc/creating_plots/f3-84337.html#f3-99776 shows an interactive way to do this, but I need a programmatic method, otherwise it will be tedious, fast .)

You can fully automate the printing process: http://UndocumentedMatlab.com/blog/customizing-print-setup/

You can convert it to EPS ( -deps or -deps2 ) and then use eps2pdf (which uses GhostScript ) to convert it to PDF. I usually convert all my data this way.
