Java web launch does not start

On my Windows 7 x64 machine, I had problems launching my remotely deployed Web Start application (the Web Start application starts correctly on another PC, as expected). In IE or FF, I click on the web launch launch link, JNLP loads, it seems to be executed, and nothing happens. I see javaws.exe processes. I do not see java.exe.

I do not know if this is related, but I also cannot start the java console. In the settings of the Java applet in the control panel, I turned on "Show console" and "put the Java icon in the system tray." I also do not see the Java icon in the system tray.

I am running Java 1.6.0_21 (32 bit). I can run Netbeans so that it looks as if Java was installed correctly on my machine. Why does web launch not work?

There is a problem with the firewall in my corporate federated domain. This prevented the website and other types of applications from working properly or even starting up. The opening of ports allowed this.

Are you absolutely sure that your Windows browser binds the JNLP suffix to the javaws executable?

If you downloaded the file and double-click, will it open correctly? If not, right-click and explore what is presented in the "Open With ..." section.

I had the same symptoms when I switched the JNLP specification to 6.0. So I just solved it by returning to 1.5, which, in my opinion, is a default in NetBeans, at least until 6.7.

<jnlp spec="6.0+"...
