Google gmail on iPad: how do they scroll only the right side of the page?

I'm trying to do (EDIT: in a web application designed primarily for iPad) what Google does in gmail for iPad: the left pane containing the list of messages remains in place, and the right side of the screen (message pane) can be scrolled vertically using a touch gesture.

How does this split page scroll to the right?

thanks

Use the scroll div. See Glovebox , for example. Try demo on iPad.

After trying to reprogram gmail scrolling and apple ipad help scrolling, I was redirected to http://cubiq.org/iscroll-4 .

iscroll-light is great if you only need smooth scrolling.

You are looking for a UISplitViewController .

Try this link: Developing partitions for the iPad or the documentation page above.

Assuming this is in a web browser, I would suggest that they use CSS position: fixed; .

@chris I don’t think so, because gmail is a web application and not a native ipad application. I'm not sure if this helps, but take a look at this: http://www.domedia.org/oveklykken/css-div-scroll.php

Use touchstart, touchmove and touchhend. You will also need to prevent the bubble event up - preventDefault.
