C # Windows Service latest technology

All,

I have been imposing Windows services in C # for some time using ServiceBase. So far, my services are hosted on servers, where they usually listen to message queues and process messages.

Is there a new way to create such services in WCF?

Thanks,

MK

Yes. Check out Windows Activation Services .

As far as I understand, this is very similar to the way you used to host remote objects in IIS, but with WAS you do not need to bring in the entire huge IIS stack, as you are used to.

Microsoft Message Queuing seems to be what you want, although there are some branches, such as BizTalk Server , that might use similar materials. Just to throw away an idea or two.

I started using an open source project called TopShelf to easily create applications that run either as a Windows service or as a console debugging application.

I also heard a lot about the Windows Server App Fabric . The following is a summary of App Fabric white paper .

AppFabric Hosting Services (originally code-named "Dublin") doesn't create some entirely new hosting infrastructure. Instead, it builds on what's already provided by Internet Information Services (IIS) and Windows Process Activation Service (WAS). On this foundation, AppFabric Hosting Services adds extra capabilities for running and managing WCF services, including workflow services. Figure 7 illustrates this idea.
