How many iPhone users still use iOS3.1.3 and below?

My prime minister wants me to enable support for older versions of iOS before moving to the appstore

I am trying to figure out how to create older versions below 3.2, but I can not do this because MPMoviePlayerViewController is incompatible?

Should I just delete all 3.2+ code and use MPMoviePlayerController instead to avoid the problem? Or just expect all lagging users to catch up and update their phones?

There is still a significant number of devices 3.1.3.

Unable to update iphone 2G and original iPod touch.

Many of the sold iphone 3G models are still within their original contract term, preventing users from upgrading to new devices at a reasonable price, and users are reluctant to upgrade their 3G devices to iOS4 due to reduced performance:

I am having similar problems; working on the bugs in 3.1.3, which are fixed in 3.2 and 4, really slows me down, but I just can't rule out devices 3.1.

Update

I found a very useful graph here:

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/07/22/chitika_ios_4_already_powering_50_of_iphone_traffic.html

This is based on an analysis of the data from the ads in the application, so it is no doubt statistically distorted in many ways, but still makes an interesting read.

Is MPMoviePlayerViewController an integral part of your application? I suppose not, or you would not ask a question - but sometimes it’s better to ask obvious questions first :-)

If it is integral, you need to target the minimum OS in which it is available (I trust you that it is 3.2 - I do not remember OTTOMH).

Another alternative is rewriting, so it does not use MPMoviePlayerViewController , but instead uses an earlier API. I do not know how this is possible.

But if it’s nice, but you want it to be available, you can use a weak connection to achieve this.

Some links:

During the WWDC label, Apple said about 40 million iPhone OS devices are around, which obviously includes the iPhone and iPod touch. Of these over 40 million devices, according to Apple's announcement dated June 22, six million were installed in the new OS in the first week after its release. This is approximately 15% of the implementation level of iPhone OS 3.0 in one week.

Well, since the iPhone 2G and iPod Touch 1g cannot work with OS 4, I am thinking of at least 10% or something like that.
