Why does perforce show "// depot <contains files or folders>"?
Starting yesterday, I was unable to connect to our Perforce server. The depot extension gives the message "// depot". It's funny, because last week I connected very well, and people sitting next to me can contact without problems.
IT does not say anything that the settings have not changed and error messages are not reported. This does not help the fact that IT is a few time zones!
I hope someone here saw a similar problem and can tell me which switch to turn over.
SOLVED: Using P4Win or P4V does not cause errors. BUT, using the p4.exe command line, I get the error message "protected namespace - access denied". Passed it on to IT, and mysteriously works again. It looks like I turned off my rights and turned it on again. Nobody owned anything, but at least I had it again and again!
It's funny that I had to go to the command line before I received the error message.
"protected namespace - access denied" means that you do not have permissions for the specified path. You should see this message in the P4V output window if verbose logging is enabled.
One of the possibilities is that the administrator accidentally inserted a typo in your username when editing a group or protection table or removed you from the group, substantially removing your access (but easy to recover). The specifications repository stores changes to the server management files so that the administrator can check what went wrong, but the specifications repository does not tell you which administrator changed it. A specification repository must be created before the event.
