HELP! Tools do not start

Tools do not run on my iPad and iPhone. Both of them are correctly prepared, and I can debug the code on them from xcode without problems, but the tools do not start.

All I get is a beep. I looked at the Mac Console logs and I see a few of them:

8/18/10 5:46:27 PM Tools [1406] - [NSCFArray length]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x11bfd93e0

I tried restarting the Mac by turning off the iPad, disconnecting the iPad, and uninstalling the iPad from Organizer. I tried to delete the .plist file.

I tried both USB ports and different cables. Unlucky in getting Tools to work.

I can run the application just fine with Xcode on the device and not on the tools.

I tried this on two different Mac computers and I have the same problem. I tried to connect the Tools to my iPhone, and I have the same problem, so I do not think this device. I really do not want to buy a new iPad to find out that it does not work.

I can run Tools on the simulator, but not on the device. Xcode can create and run the application perfectly, so there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the application.

The Tools drop-down list displays My Choices, but not an application like a simulator. I tried to connect the tools to the executable version of the application, and the attach application displayed the application, but it was not available.

I upgrade to the latest Xcode and make sure my iPad works last and the problem persists. I am running Xcode 3.2.3 (1688) and tools 2.7 (2529).

If I run the tools directly (not from Xcode), I get a dialog box saying that it says “Could not connect to the device”, along with an unknown selector message, and I see yellow banners in the Tools that read: “Target didn't start. "

Here is the console log from my iPad when the tools cannot connect:

Thu Aug 19 16:16:27 iPad lockdownd[17] <Error>: (0x481000) set_response_error: handle_start_session SessionActive Thu Aug 19 16:16:28 iPad /usr/libexec/notification_proxy[149] <Error>: Could not receive size of message Thu Aug 19 16:16:28 iPad /usr/libexec/notification_proxy[149] <Error>: Could not receive message Thu Aug 19 16:16:48 iPad lockdownd[17] <Error>: (0x481000) handle_connection: Could not receive USB message #6 from Instruments. Killing connection Thu Aug 19 16:16:48 iPad com.apple.mobile.lockdown[17] <Notice>: receive secure message timeout!

Everything worked perfectly one evening, and then the next day he began to break down. I did nothing with the machine or device between workers and non-workers.

I am very desperate. I posted on the Apple Dev forums, but received no answers.

Can anyone help me? Any tips?

This problem was resolved by doing a full factory reset of the iPad and iPhone. Something has hit the devices.

If this happens to you, now you know. :-)

I had the same problem! I could use the tools only on my iPhone, but not on the iPad or iPad2! Whenever I started tools with Xcode 4, it just beeped and the record button would be disabled ..

I solved this problem in Xcode by choosing> Goals> Change Schema> "yourAppName" Profile and changing the build configuration from version to debug. Then try the profile again. Product> Profile

If you get a beep again. You will see that he says “CHOOSE A GOAL” next to the record button, open the drop-down list> Choose a target> “yourAppName”, then click on the record.

This solved it for me and finally was able to run the tools again!

I know this post is old, but I hope it helps someone.

If someone has problems with "Could not connect to the device", make sure that you do not open an older version of the tools (possibly from the dock) that does not support new devices / iOS 6. This is the first step in that the tools will start working on your device.

To solve this problem, go to Xcode> Open Developer Tools> Tools , and it will open the latest version of the tools that comes with Xcode v4.6.

Make sure you delete the old obsolete versions of the tools and recreate the new version.
