Emulator does not load

I use the hello android tutorial and create avd via eclipse. When the emulator starts, the image is not used. It simply displays a black back screen with the word ANDROID in the center and a blinking cursor at the end of the word ANDROID. I followed the steps to T to install the SDK, Eclipse, and ADT. Even starting the emulator as standalone gives the same result. Is there any step I'm missing to get the emulator to load the Android environment for testing?

How long do you leave it before you close the emulator? In my personal experience, I found the emulator long enough (even up to a minute, sometimes longer) to fully boot to the main screen.

I would advise you to wait a little longer to make sure that you do not close it before it boots.

Edit:

Have you also tried looking at the magazine at the bottom of Eclipse? If for some reason there is a problem when the emulator is fully loaded, there may be some kind of error message posted there to inform you.
