How to reduce the size (in MB) of images inserted in a PDF?

I am writing a master's thesis when I need to include several photos, but I had a problem with the size of the generated PDF: 18 MB, which is more or less the total size of the entire included image.

How can I tell Latex not to save the original image and not to reduce it, but to compress the image before including it in the PDF?

I use \includegraphics[height=6cm]{img/cinema.jpg} to include my numbers.

thanks

You need to reduce the size of your images before including them (with software of your choice). This is a simple solution.

I think the rationale for inclusion is entirely that PDF is a vector page description language, and you can subsequently display a page with arbitrary resolution.

You can use primoPDF to reduce all images right after creating a PDF file in latex.

There is a package called "Degrade" that does this. I have not tried and it is not included in TeXLive, so you will need to install it manually.

In addition, PDFLaTeX must have some compression arguments.
