When you navigate using text text in VIM, how do you make the selector navigate to wrapped lines?

The behavior I want is the behavior of most text editors and office applications (which are not designed to suit the needs of programmers). This allows you to quickly get to the center of large paragraphs.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but try the gj and gk commands instead of j and k . I think they do what you want. I put together a screencast with a few tips for with the text “soft wrapped” (I think this is the same as the “word-wrapped” text).
