SAML Authentication for SharePoint 2010

Question

Is it possible to authenticate a user in SharePoint 2010 using a SAML token provided by a third-party user?

Most SSO configuration examples for SP2010 assume that you intend to use Active Directory as your custom repository. I do not want to configure ADFS, since all my users are actually on a SAML-compatible Jasig CAS server.

Any ideas?
