Can. framework framework 4 running on top of xp windows?

I tried to run a small application that I wrote using VS2010 on my old Windows XP desktop. I got a yellow death screen, showing me the web.config part with assemblies.

<compilation debug="true" targetFramework="4.0">

It seems that he did not like the 4.0 framework. I rewrote it, setting up a 3.5 framework, this time it worked great.

I would like to know if I can install the .NET Framework 4.0 on top of Windows XP?

Yes, it is possible .. NET 4.0 works fine on computers running Windows XP. Just make sure SP3 is installed first.
