Wordpress sharding: which multi-db plugin to use?

Question

I have a multi-user wordpress installation that hosts enough blogs that I need to outline in a database. I see that there are three plugins available for distributing wordpress in several databases:

• http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/hyperdb/
• http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/multi-db
• http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/shardb/

I am trying to decide which one to use, but I did not find much information comparing them [1].

Does anyone have experience deploying any of these three tools? Or better yet, experience with a few of them and a summary of why you switched.
