The meaning of the interpretation of the result

I did the following to get the difference between two png files:

compare -metric rmse a.png b.png null:

Result:

  3374.35 (0.0514893)

I run it on the windows. Could you tell me what these numbers mean? Is b.png too different from a.png? Can you give me a link, if possible, where can I read about the results of the explanations? thanks in advance!

It seems to be calculating RMSE values โ€‹โ€‹(RGB.a-RGB.b). The lower first number is more similar images. But the interpretation of the similarity depends on the size of the images you are trying to compare. The second number may be the probability that any pixel will differ between a and b versions of it. But I'm not sure.

A bit about the -metric documentation options.
