STS vs Eclipse for Grails?

I understand that the SpringSource Tool Suite is based on Eclipse.

I am coding Grails. STS often annoys me. I was thinking of installing Eclipse instead with the Grails plugin - would it be the same?

What's better? STS or Eclipse?

I believe that STS has included the original Groovy plugin, so you're honestly better with STS than trying to hack Eclipse with the old plugin.

However, other IDEs with good Groovy / Grails support:

I personally tried IntelliJ and I liked it for Grails. I have not tried NetBeans, but I heard that it is good.

Do you find IntelliJ great support for Grails and Groovy. I have been an eclipse guy for many years, but I love IntelliJ Now.

STS has better Groovy n Grails support. The latest version ie 2.5.0 has the best features and bug fixes. I would advise you to stick with STS, not Eclipse. I have been using it for the last couple of months and it is very stable. The latest version has much better features and is more stable than previous versions.

I found that Eclipse with the Grails plugin is easier to configure than STS, so I started using this route. STS seems too awkward and too specialized - if your application is more than a very vanilla grails application, I would say that Eclipse is better.

Having said all this, I tried IntelliJ IDEA and fell in love with it. I even handed out $ 200 for a personal license when my company refused to buy a license!

STS is an Eclipse distribution packaged by SpringSource, which also owns the Grails project. You should bring your specific problem to the provider, or at least describe them in your question.

I think you should definitely choose STS - Groovy resp integration. Grails plugin is much better than in Eclipse.

On the other hand, the question is difficult to answer without obtaining a subjective subject ; what problems have you touched on STS, and what makes you think that they will not occur or will even be more annoying in the main Eclipse distribution without Groovy / Grails support

I unsuccessfully tried using the Grails plugin on Eclipse. After much work on finding the right repositories for missing dependencies, the Grails plugin almost took over Eclipse, it became the quasi STS Eclipse. Even the home window has become the STS window!

I think that STS manufacturers are mainly trying to convince you to switch to STS, instead of using their almost useless plug-in, and they experience pain when working with the plug-in and get an STS clone at the end.

You are better off using STS, but my name is that people who like Eclipse or MyEclipse should be forced to use the special version of Eclipse for STS.
