Should I support IE6?

Possible duplicate:
Ethical Dilemma: Should I still Serve IE6 as a Web Developer.

5% of IE users use IE6 last month. Therefore, I am curious if people think that I should support him ... because I was not.

I wouldn’t ... It wasn’t worth your time and effort by 5%.

No. But someone is going to say that you will lose customers if you do not.

Time for IE6 to die. Those of you who still use monitors and tube meters, please give us a break and enter the 21st century.

As Bobin points out in his comment above, it is unrealistic to wear wool on a VW Beetle and expect it to look more like a Porsche.

Businesses generally support IE6 because legacy applications can only support IE6, so you tend to find that they are in no hurry to deploy new versions of IE, as they will have to update their own applications.

Maybe not, but if your consumers are made up of people who use older browsers, this might be a good idea.

  • What is your product or service?

  • What percentage of conversions can be found from these 5% of users?

  • What percentage will be these users if your site has the best support for using their browser?

If you answer these questions, you won’t have to ask anyone else if you should support IE6 for your site or not.

It’s not that they make up 5% of your user base, they make up 5% of your IE user base. In other words, IE6 is 5% of 30% of your traffic.

I would say no because you are sacrificing too much time and opportunity for too few people. This and large sites such as youtube and firefox have already given up support.

IE6 users are almost exclusively corporate users whose update schedule is set by the corporation. If your user base is a general public, then that 5% figure will be much lower, and therefore I don't think IE6 support is worth it.
