Stream.asf video from a web page (embedded HTML player)

I need a video player that supports the .asf format on my webpage. My .asf files have 2 video streams.

Windows Media Player is great for this. Here is my example: http://weblectures.yolasite.com/

and scripts for opening the link above:

  • Chrome, in Ubuntu, it will not work or only one video stream will start
  • IE, in Windows 7 it will not work
  • Chrome, it works on Windows 7 (both streaming video streams)

My ultimate goal is that the user / client should make minimal efforts to stream videos from my web page. I do not want, for example, this user to switch to JW Player and lower it, and then install it so that it can transfer my videos.

And also it should work on all platforms (Windows, Ubuntu, MAC OS X).

Questions (this looks like this question, but I have to play .asf, which has 2 video streams.

  • HTML5 solution?
  • I saw that Ubuntu has problems with .asf, is there a way to play it in Ubuntu?
  • Is there any "universal" player?

For ASF / WMV, your only cross-platform option right now is probably Silverlight. Microsoft said the only codec that they will support for HTML 5 is MP4.

Silverlight works in IE, Firefox, Chrome, and on PC / MAC. I don’t know exactly about the current state of Moonlight , the Unix implementation for Silverlight, but it may be an option.

Silverlight has several open source media players:

Edit for moonlight info:

Moonlight was created by Novell in collaboration with Microsoft, which provided Novell with test suites, specifications, source code, and media codecs to create a fully open source Silverlight-compatible implementation for Unix systems.

Access to licensed media codecs (MP3, WMV, VC-1) is provided by Microsoft for Moonlight 1.0 and 2.0 users. The first time you access a website that requires these codecs, Moonlight will prompt you to download codecs from Microsoft and install them on your system.

Perhaps you can try, as explained here: http://forums.cnet.com/7723-6615_102-14875.html

I'm also trying to do it right now. This is a Javascript solution, which can be a good (and easy) solution ....
