How to run the Google Gears extension on Firefox 4?

I am launching a beta version of Firefox 4 for testing, and unfortunately, Google has not updated the Gears extension for Firefox 4. At the moment, it even seems that Google might not update Gears for Firefox 4 . Do you guys know any trick to get Gears to work on Firefox 4?

(For reference, here you can download OS X XPI for Gears .)

Google has clearly abandoned Gears; they no longer support it (about a year ago!).

They switched to focus on HTML5 and other related new browser features. Essentially, they say that all the functions provided by Gears can be done using HTML5.

Here's a link to an article saying they drop it (but there are many others if you use Google for it):

The downside is that not all browsers support all the HTML5 features that are needed to replicate the Gears features, therefore, condemning this, they have disabled support for some browsers. Chrome is fine, of course! But other browsers are catching up - of course, Firefox 4 should be fine.

Many functions provided by google transfers become part of html5 - firefox implemented local storage with 3.5.

Modernizr provides api detection - but not abstraction - I suppose there may be something on the Internet (Google Gears / HTML5 has only recently appeared on my radar). So far, I have not found any way to create an html5 application to create a desktop shortcut.
