Information field binding when adding a new net.pipe binding

What is the use of the binding information field when adding a new net.pipe binding in IIS? I was told to enter * in it, but I want to know what it was used for.

Apparently, the field can be used to enter a domain name, for example, if you type:

mysubdomain.mydomain.com

You can then put this in your endpoint address in the client configuration:

 net.pipe://mysubdomain.mydomain.com/MyService.svc
