Stop Gmail chat from automatically updating status?

What really annoys me is that whenever I move the mouse to the gmail window to reply to email, my chat status becomes automatically available. Gmail does not provide the ability to disable this default behavior. So I want to write a greasemonkey script to disable this. Basically, I think to enable this only when my mouse moves to the chat frame or I am currently chatting. But I only have limited knowledge of javascript and gmail.

So will it be very difficult to do? or any hints on how this can be done?

Thanks!

Perhaps this helps to use the GTalk program instead of building GMail in the solution.

You can also access the GTalk protocol (Jabber) using any major messenger http://www.google.com/support/chat/bin/topic.py?hl=en&topic=24670

These instant messengers have the ability to control when switching from busy to available.
