Cannot start debugging on the web server. The connected connection has been closed. The connection was unexpectedly closed

Suddenly I get the following error on my local web server (Win7 64bit, IIS 7.5). I uninstalled and reinstalled IIS locally and it did not fix it. IIS is configured to start automatically, and I see that the service has started successfully. On a new reboot, if I go to IIS and click on the start site, I get the following error:

The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070020

If I try to start debugging on my local project, I get the following error:

Unable to start debugging on the web server. The connected connection has been closed. Connection unexpectedly closed.

Any ideas on what I can try? I am researching this issue, and Microsoft suggests making sure that no other service is listening on the same ports. I checked that this is not a problem.

Try changing your website to use a port other than 80 (like 8080) and see if it starts. If so, that is a sure sign of another service using port 80 (Skype is the common culprit for this).

Application pool identification password changed? I know this is an old post, but I cannot believe how many times I have been bitten by this. Some stores use an integrated security system for SQL, and often your local IIS requires your network login for the application pool. When your password expires and you forget to change your password here, start banging your head on the wall ... DOH!

Open IIS. Select Application Pools. Select the application pool used by your application. Click "Advanced Settings" ... Select "Identifier" and a small button "..." to update your password / password.
