Why can't I install TortoiseGit 1.6.3.0 on Windows 7?

My laptop is running Windows 7 Home Basic.

Every time I try to install TortoiseGit 1.6.3.0, it exits 3/4 of the way with the message:

Error installing assembly component
{89EDD3A9-944B-3257-8484-D6EB6A00DDF5}.
HRESULT: 0x800736FD

How can I fix this problem?

I had the same problem on a newly installed Windows 7. After installing Service Pack 1 through the updates that it installed.

This error is most likely due to the lack of a redistributable Microsoft Visual C ++ package

I am not 100% sure that this will fix your problem, but many of the 0x800736FD error searches continue to cite the need to update or install the redistributable runtime package. You can try installing it - http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=A5C84275-3B97-4AB7-A40D-3802B2AF5FC2&displaylang=en

This seems to be related to the MSI installer executable as indicated in this technique .

Error 1935 is one of the most common problems that can prevent a user from installing the .NET Framework, J #, Visual Studio, or any other application that uses the MSIssembly and MSIAssemblyName tables for Windows Installer to install assemblies. The troubleshooting steps are described in Aaron Stebner Weblog

So, check the current configuration / version of the existing .Net infrastructure and view WebLog for a complete diagnosis and workaround.

Start the Windows Installer installer service in services.msc.

TortoiseGit attempts to install either the .NET Framework or distributed in Visual C ++, and the above service is required for installation. I do not know any features, but it works here.

I had the same problem.

Installing Visual C ++ redistibutable did not help me.

What helped me in the work of Windows6.1-KB947821-v25-x64.msu. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3132

The tool fixed some registry errors and I was able to install the turtle.

The problem is quite common. Hope this helps.
