Can I cast a webcam in real time?

The plugin at http://www.xarg.org/project/jquery-webcam-plugin/ uses images from my webcam.

I would like to send these images to a streaming server.

Is it possible?

I know that VLC will function as a streaming media server. I have never used it for streaming from a webcam, but it lists this feature in its list of features.

Most people only know VLC as a media player, and not as a media server. There are other servers. It really depends on your platform, whether you want something open or commercial, etc. Etc.

The jquery plugin you linked is flash based and works with still images. You can send still images using AJAX to your server and send to a partner.

If you are looking for chat video (> = 10 fps), then flas is the only solution for encoding and transmitting multimedia in real time in a browser. Check out Red5 , there are even sample video chat apps.

If you want to broadcast live (for many users), please clarify your question.

Check out this page: http://www.jqueryrain.com/2013/10/best-jquery-webcam-plugin-example/

There are several jquery plugins shown for image capture and image streaming. Among them, I really liked the scriptcam ( http://www.scriptcam.com/index.cfm ) API. It has many functions.
