How to make good CSS layouts

Currently, I know a little CSS, as well as HTML, I have also made several websites. But the design of my sites is always crappy, and so is the code. I really want to make very beautiful sites. Does anyone have any good starting points?

I suggest you first read some epic posts here:

Also, always keep in mind some important things:

  • HTML must be semantic. Create your HTML structure as it means not this appearance.

  • Use CSS for all positioning. Remember that float , position , z-index and clear are your friends.

  • Avoid certain browsers. In fact, almost everything can be done exactly for IE9, Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Safari. We have IE8 (only without CSS3 stuff). Your hard way will be IE7, but it's not much from IE8.

  • Choose browsers by audience and graphics like this . I no longer care about IE6 and I also focus on IE7.

  • Using table not a crime. tables was created for tabular data, i.e. grids, lists with more than 2 columns, etc.

  • Using table is a crime. Do not use this for your layout structure, such as menus, headers, footers, etc.

  • Using a div can also be a crime. "Without tablets" does not mean "Divmore." Your markup should be clean and semantic ever. Dozens of divs are as bad as tables can be.

  • Read the W3C Specifications and understand web standards as you understand your name.

And always discuss (here with us or in many blogs about this) why some approach is better than others.

Good luck
