Check out the Indentation plugin. He can do what you want.

I personally use SeeTab . It is not suitable for constant indentation guides (which I find distracting), but is great for selectively switching on / off to orient yourself.

I do not think he is, however

• folding (e.g. se fdm=indent )
• combined with zj zk
• :he %

Most likely, this will make your life easier. You see, I always feel that Vi (m) looks less at the screen and more about “talking” in the movements of objects, and this is one area where it seems to be shown

You can try set listchars=tab:\|\ with a space after this second backslash (Stack Overflow).

To show what I mean, the full listchars parameter may include:

set listchars=tab:\|\ ,trail:·,extends:…,precedes:…,eol:¬ .

| is an imperfect but functional solution.
